All day yesterday was spent outside. It was blissfully beautiful and breezy. We had no set plans except to get the garden tilled. Yes, we haven’t got our garden in yet. It has been such a wet spring and our yard holds water like you wouldn’t believe. One year it went in on June 30th! So any year that we get it in before that date is a good year. Every year we promise that we’ll do more prep work , like get all the debris cleaned out in the fall, haul in more dirt and put some sand in to make spring tilling easier. Funnily enough, each year something comes up to make that not happen. Anywho… hubby got out there and tilled it up, which is no small feat for a man who has no cartilage in his knee. Braced and wrapped and determined, he got it done. It was still pretty wet, but there’s nothing much prettier than a freshly tilled garden. Except maybe an already planted and producing garden.
I got a few perennials divided and transplanted – better late than never. It was just stinkin’ hot. It’s awful to say that since it wasn’t all that long ago we were freezing our butts off. Got to love Illinois weather! I also hate to say that since I was watching hubby do the garden tilling all by himself in that heat. He won’t let me help. I probably couldn’t push the tiller anyway and it is a one-person job, but it is no fun feeling so unhelpful. He is all about the man stuff, like mowing and cleaning the garage. The outside is his domain. Mine is the inside – kids, kitchen and laundry – fine by me. Not so say we don’t help each other out, it’s just his is his and mine is mine. It works for us.
It was a really good day. The boys got along and played together, the breeze made the heat tolerable and kept the bugs to a minimum and we got some outside stuff done. It was nice just having good weather and good moods at the same time for once. I hope it was a good omen for the long summer months ahead.
